Tom Allen is a young and ambitious Chartered Architect with both domestic and commercial experience, having worked on projects of various scales from small house extensions to multi-million pound developments.
Tom established Tom Allen Ltd in March 2012. Having studied Architecture at Newcastle University gaining a 1st Class Honours degree for his Part II, he completed his Part III at Nottingham University, qualifying as an Architect in 2011. During his training he spent a year at HOK Sport in London working on the new Lansdowne Road Stadium in Dublin and several years at Nottingham practice, Allan Joyce Architects, working on multiple projects in various sectors from domestic extensions to multi-million pound flat developments. Tom is currently working on a variety of different projects across Nottinghamshire and North Norfolk.
Gaining practical experience has been an important part of Tom’s career. He bought and renovated his first house whilst he was training and the South Road Project in the project section was one of Tom’s renovation projects.
As part of his Part II thesis project, Tom extensively researched the principles of ‘cradle-to-cradle’ theory, whereby materials are used in a manner that their future use as well as their current use is considered to minimise a buildings embodied energy and where possible maintain materials in a closed-loop cycle. Sustainability and material use continues to be an important consideration in all Tom’s projects, no matter how small. Please visit www.tedshed.org.uk to download a copy of Tom’s design book.
